Dr. Ruth Cassidy earned her Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy at St. John’s University, a Doctor of Pharmacy at the University of Florida, a Fellowship with the American College of Healthcare Executives and a Master’s in Business Administration at West Texas A&M University. Dr. Cassidy is currently the Senior Vice President of Clinical Support Services and the Chief Pharmacy Officer at SBH Health System in Bronx, N.Y In addition to Pharmacy Services, Dr. Cassidy has responsibility for the departments of radiology, pathology, food service, clinical nutrition, invasive and non-invasive cardiology, as well as outpatient wound care. Dr. Ruth Cassidy also serves as Associate Faculty at the CUNY School of Medicine (SBH affiliated) and Assistant Faculty at Touro University School of Pharmacy.
During her tenure at SBH Health System, related to the Department of Pharmacy, Dr. Cassidy has expanded pharmacy clinical services at the unit level in Internal Medicine, Critical Care, Emergency Services, Ambulatory Services and Infectious Diseases. Additionally, she initiated 2 PGY1 Residency Programs as well as three PGY2 Residency Programs in Emergency Services, Infectious Disease and Critical Care Services.
Dr. Cassidy was instrumental in the procurement and optimization of state of the art technology in pharmacy operations to provide optimal quality care to her patients in the Bronx Community. Most recently, Dr. Cassidy initiated SBH Health System’s first ambulatory pharmacy, which opened its doors January 2021
In her role as Associate Professor with the CUNY School of Medicine, Dr. Cassidy worked to form the first multi-disciplinary joint residency training program to include medical residents, nursing residents and pharmacy residents.
Dr. Cassidy is currently President for the New York State Council of Health-system Pharmacists (NYSCHP) for 2021-2022. Over the past ten years, Dr. Cassidy has served as a delegate, a member of several committees, and as President of the Westchester Chapter. At the state level, Ruth has served at the House of Delegates, as a committee member of Public Policy, a committee member of the Annual Assembly Planning Committee, and Chair of the Industry Relations Committee.
